Finding Your Ancestors in Deed(s): Using Land records in Genealogical Research
This lecture looked at the genealogical value of land records, where to find them, what they mean, the history behind them and how to get full value from them. Topics covered included a survey of different types of land transactions starting in colonial times, land transfers by governments (colonial, federal and state), how to abstract deeds, how to understand legal descriptions, and how to plat the land.
