Johann Benesch and family arrived in NY aboard Admiral on 18 Sep 1867. I have been unable to find the village of origin. Does anyone have a tip on how to find that information?

Have you contacted Dolores Duy? She was a Benes and knows her origins. Maybe a relative?? I can contact her for you or look for a Czech website in IL. I forget exactly what it is called but should show up on a google search. I am related to her husband thru Duy—the “other side”.

My grandparents and mother lived on Berwyn Avenue in Chicago and my mother, Mildred Halacek, born there in 1926, used to tell me about a girl she went to school with by the name of Emily Benes, pronounced Benesh. She remembered the teachers always pronounced the name as Beans and other children used to call her Emily Beans. I hope this might at least help with the spelling. I’m not 100% sure the first name was Emily, but I think it was.
