My Greatgrandfather and his family came to Baltimore in 1872 then on to Chicage, how would they of traveled to Chicago?

Many times the ship companies arranged for a train passage for passengers as part of a combined ticket package. It is likely they traveled to Chicago by train. In Baltimore harbor, there was a train station right where the ships docked.

Probably B&O Railroad. Tracks went right out onto the piers at Locust Point where the ships pulled in. Many people purchased combined tickets in Europe from the agents who traveled around looking for customers.
