Description

My grandfather Michael CYCAK was born June 24, 1886 to Marcin & Maria CYCAK. His Canadian records indicate his birthplace was in various locations: Trebon, Bohemia; Praha, Bohemia; or Cracow, Galicia. The records include his Canadian Border Crossing in 1915, his Canadian National Registration of 1940, and his death certificate of 1957. I am looking for his or his father’s birth and baptismal records in Bohemia.

Michael Cycak worked as a farm laborer until he was 14 years old, or 1900, when he left Europe for Baltimore. By 1905 he was naturalized as an American citizen, and was working on the railroad, as a railway car repairer, maybe in Chicago. That same year he left the U.S. for Winnipeg, where he continued to work on the railroad, where he became a naturalized Canadian citizen in 1908. Other Canadian records indicate that he was Bohemian, and that he spoke Bohemian and Polish. Records in Walawa, Poland (Galicia) show he has a brother and a mother buried there.
