Description

I have begun a project to reconstruct the Bohemian families of Chicago’s Grand Crossing neighborhood (mostly northeast of cross streets 79th and Cottage Grove).

The web page is at

www.wwjohnston.net/famhist/grand-crossing-czechs/grand-cross

I have thus far only begun with the 1900 census and identified the following surnames (numbers in parens are number of people with that surname in the neighborhood in the 1900 census).

Babicky (7) Bavez (1) Bevan (6) Bumba (6) Bunta (3) Chorvat (10) Cismanik (1) Dolezal (2) Dvorak (3) Fafegta (5) Forst (5) Grancheck (3) Hahn (4) Hamous (4) Havlice (7) Hayda (4) Heyda (3) Hlavka (3) Jelen (6) King (4) Kneze (6) Koci (5) Kolar (3) Kolosch (1) Kotva (3) Koutecky (8) Krikava (7) Krucek (6) Landa (1) Lukes (1) Madden (1) Marek (17) Mayzis (4) Meslich (6) Novy (5) Pavlik (7) Pech (4) Pech-Hayda (1) Ruzicka (8) Schultz (5) Sedlacek (22) Sedlack (1) Sejsek (2) Siman (7) Springer (2) Springle (5) Stanek (4) Stanka (8) Steininger (4) Strunce (7) Tomin (6) Treska (9) Urban (6) Vesely (12) Vetrovec (4) Vileta (6) Vlazny (8) Vostry (2) Walters (2) Welawitz (6) Zdichy (5) Zeman (20)

The CGSI message board software has cut off the URL so that what is at the link within the original note is not a valid URL. So I am going to have to post the URL to my main family history page which is shorter and hopefully will not be chopped off by the message board. Once you are at my main family history page, go to the Czech section and then to the Grand Crossing link.
