Description

My great grandfather, Jan Roztocil, was said to be a founding member of The Order of Ladimir Klacel CSPS in Braidwood, IL This would have been about 1881. Does anyone have any information regarding this organization?

Dear Johnna:

The Lodge Ladimir Klacel #33 of the Cesko-Slovanske Podporujici Spolecnost (Czech Slavonic Benevolent Society and later Czech Slovak Protective Society) is the fraternal benefit and social organization which began in 1854 in St. Louis, Missouri. An article about the organization will appear in the December 2009 issue of Nase rodina. This organization later changed names to the Czechoslovak Society of America and now simply known as CSA Fraternal Life with headquarters in Oak Brook, IL. They used to be in Berwyn, IL. They CSA has a Museum and Library at their headquarter at 122 W 22nd St, Oak Brook, IL 60523. They may have some of the records relating to founding members. Also they have published a 100 Year History of the CSPS back in 1954 which is available in both Czech and English. The CGSI owns a copy of both.
