Body

Member volunteers are the engine that drives Czechoslovak Genealogical Society International (CGSI). These are members who achieved significant accomplishments since the founding of the organization. Ongoing opportunities to volunteer remain as important as ever to CGSI's mission and purpose.

Because CGSI is an international organization that embraces the latest technological advances, participation in the organization is not limited by where you live. We encourage members to volunteer for standing committees, ongoing projects, and at live events. Members are always welcome to suggest ideas for new volunteer opportunities.

Volunteer Opportunities

Education Committee

The purpose of this standing committee is to increase the availability of relevant educational materials, primarily via the CGSI website. Volunteers are needed in the following areas:

Research and Proofing
- Assist in the search for content to use in the educational modules
- Search online for sources and written materials
- Confirm links to other websites aligned to the specific topic
- Review and proofread materials prior to publication to ensure accuracy

Design and Development
- Assist with web design. Web design experience is helpful though not required
- Suggest creative, flexible topics
- Develop materials for the CGSI website using standard design methods

Technical Talent
- Build audio overlays
- Create graphics
- Produce a timeline and deliver results
- Support production of quarterly webinars via recording, editing, and posting

Quarterly Program Presentations and Webinars
- Deliver content in web-based video presentations, webinars, or in person to share knowledge and experience with members
- Topics include genealogy, language, history, immigration, culture, and traditions
- Presentations are planned for approximately 40 minutes duration with up to an additional 20 minutes for Q & A

Research Assistance

CGSI receives many requests for genealogical research assistance on a regular basis. Volunteers help others by sharing knowledge, experience, and perspective. Email or telephone assistance supports researchers with information and guidance on how to proceed.

For more complex research, the requester may need assistance to enlist a qualified Professional Researcher. Often, the patrons pay nominal fees for the volunteers’ time, and those funds, in turn, benefit all of CGSI.

Sales and Information Table at Local Ethnic Events

CGSI has a presence at many cultural and ethnic events across the country with a sales and information table of Czech and Slovak items including books, clothing, jewelry, and much more. We also share information about CGSI membership and answer questions about the wide range of research materials and other benefits of joining CGSI.

Social Media

The presence on social media platforms such as our organizational Facebook site provide important opportunities for CGSI to share with a broad audience about the value of the organization. Members can help by adding posts and answering questions on these social outlets. Collaboration with other social media contributors is essential to maintain a lively, fun, and respected social media presence.

The Message Board on the CGSI website depends on frequent active postings and responses to generate fresh ideas, maintain high interest levels, and assist others interested in their heritage and family history.

Website and Technology

Website design is an ongoing process with technical changes and complex procedures that require updates, testing, and validation. CGSI members with technical experience, and those with an interest, are welcome to contribute to maintain and update CGSI.org web pages.

New Members Orientation

CGSI needs a volunteer to conduct monthly one-hour webinars to welcome new members to the organization. No prior experience is required, and CGSI will provide all the material to conduct this webinar via a scheduled GoToMeeting event.

Describe all member benefits
Illustrate how to search and access material
Explain how to get involved in the organization
